Gianni Vitolo of New Line Benessere and referral marketing

In August 2021 we interviewed Gianni Vitolo, sales manager at New Line Benessere, a company from northern Italy that makes water-treatment systems. He described how he had activated the network — and the first referral had arrived in under three days.

What he described

A company that already had everything at home

In the interview, the first half was devoted to what set New Line apart: Italian manufacturing and fast service, which in that sector are the main selling point. The second half went into the mechanism: how the sales force had been put in a position to gather referrals, and on what timeline.

The figures the company reported at the time explained why that mechanism made sense right there: five thousand customers, a call centre, sixteen agents. A stock of relationships that already existed and had never been counted as such.

The figure that stood out

The first useful referral arrived in under three days from activation.

It isn't a promise and it isn't an average: it's what happened at one company, in one sector, in 2021. We report it with its date because that's how it was originally told.

One word at a time

Five thousand customers and sixteen agents: where the multiplier sits

The New Line case is the textbook example of a law that hadn't been written yet at the time.

The law

Activating a person is addition; activating an organisation is multiplication. But the cost of activation grows with the complexity of the node: without a designated point of access inside the organisation, the promised multiplication is lost in internal friction. This is the Fourth Law, the Law of Multiplication.

The point of access has a name

In the discipline it's the Referral Director: an internal, trained figure with an explicit mandate. They don't sell — they make a system of referrals work, keep the routine going and read the numbers.

Without that figure, a company with sixteen thousand contacts and sixteen agents produces the same results as one with sixteen contacts: the bottleneck isn't the stock of relationships, it's whoever governs it.

They already had the stock of relationships. What was missing was someone to hold it.

The first step

Where your company stands, in one number

AIRA-SCAN© measures the Relational Capital your company already has: ten questions, three minutes, no registration required. Your browser calculates the score and it appears immediately, along with the dimensions where you're losing the most points.

The extended report then arrives by email, and within one working day someone calls you: you look at the result together and assess whether the AIRA-DX© Stoic Analysis makes sense for your company. It's free and limited to twelve a week, so it isn't owed to whoever takes the check-up: it's decided together.

Would you rather just talk it through? The number is 0549 888808.
